Home step machines (or "steppers")
are a convenient way to exercise.
They offer
a good cardiovascular work out
and burn calories,
and they are easy to store when
not in use.
Steppers come in a range of prices,
depending
on the features that are included.
The following
should be considered when buying
a stepper:
- Look to see if the steps can be adjusted.
Less expensive models cannot be adjusted
for length and so tend to be noisier as they
hit the base of the unit with each step.
This can be annoying if you are listening
to the radio or television or talking on
the phone while exercising. Pricier models
adjust up to 16 inches.
- Look for features such as straps that allow
you to exercise your arms and chest while
using the stepper.
- Consider buying a model with fold away handles
if you are concerned about losing your balance
and falling.
- Look for features such as a pulse monitor
or calorie counter if you like to measure
your progress.
If you want a more intense workout while
using the stepper, twist your shoulders and
hips as you step. |
