Electric Fireplaces

If you are looking to add the warmth and charm of a fireplace to your home, you may want to consider the ease and convenience of an electric fireplace. These fireplaces are a natural choice for anyone who does not want the hassle of dragging in heavy logs and then cleaning up the ashes when the fire is finished. Since they do not need to be vented, electric fireplaces can be installed in any room without adding a chimney, making them perfect for not only living rooms and dens, but also kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms.

The latest model electric fireplaces look amazingly real. They use a technologically sophisticated imaging system to capture all the ambiance of burning wood, including the crackling sound of real logs. These fireplaces are made by manufacturers who specialize in heating equipment.

If you are thinking of buying an electric fireplace, consider the following:

  • Look for models that feature full depth, brick lined fireboxes. The logs will appear more realistic if they are carefully detailed to resemble wood with an outer layer of bark and look as if they have been hand split. A glowing ember bed is also a nice touch.
  • Electric fireplaces are manufactured as free standing models, or they can be retrofitted into an existing fireplace space, so they are easy to install in either new construction or already existing buildings. Most require a standard 110 volt outlet.
  • You may want to get a fireplace with a remote control that turns the fire on and off. A remote that can also control the height of the flame; adjust the color, contrast and brightness of the flame; and control the sound volume of the fire is an especially convenient feature.

If you buy an electric fireplace with a switch to turn off the heater separately from the audio/visual display, you can use your fireplace during the summer to add the ambiance of a burning fire without generating unwanted heat.
