Tile and Slate Roofing

As you might expect, tile & slate are very durable roofing materials. Keep in mind that tile and slate are heavy, so verify that your roof can support the load.

Tile, a semi-porous, baked or kiln dried clay, is available in two popular styles. Round-topped tiles that are used widely in the Southwest and Florida to create Mission and Spanish-style roofs. Flat style tile is also available to create French and English style roofs.

Slate, a fine grained rock that splits into thin flat layers, is available in different

colors and grades, depending on its origin. Considered virtually indestructible, tile is, however, more expensive than other roofing materials and requires special skill to apply. Many old homes, especially in the Northeast, still are protected by this long-lasting roofing material.
