Life Events

Life events pose a unique challenge because each is a new or infrequent occurrence for which many people have little or no prior experience.

A wedding is no exception to this rule.

When planning your wedding, a little dose of commonsense advice can help
tremendously.

Your Personal Wedding Website

Creating a personal wedding website is a great way to share the plans you are making for your wedding with your family and friends. A website allows you to quickly, easily, and inexpensively inform your guests about the details of your wedding, and it can be changed and updated as often as you like. A website can also be personalized with pictures and can be a place to post some of your photos after the wedding.

Online wedding website companies can help you create your own site. Many offer a wide variety of standard templates that allow you to create your site by pointing, clicking, and selecting. Most of these will allow you to create a basic site with very little effort and cost. To have your website complement the themes and colors of your wedding, explore the templates to make sure you find an appropriate one before selecting a company. To make your wedding website an integral part of your wedding, consider hiring a professional site designer.

Your website should include the same information as a printed wedding invitation. List the day, time, and location of the ceremony and reception. You may also want to include driving or other travel directions and maps.

To help out of town guests, include names of hotels and restaurants that you would recommend because of their cost, convenience, or quality. Try to suggest a range to suit the range of tastes and budgets of your guests. Having this information allows your guests to make advance reservations (let them know if you have arranged special hotel rates for them). Since guests travelling from out of town usually have free time during the visit (and to keep yourself from being distracted by having to be a tour guide), list some of the places they may want to visit while they are in your area for your wedding.

Your website is also a good place to list the shops and websites where you have registered for shower and wedding gifts. Also, if for some reason (such as a pecularity of the bridal registry) you listed yourself differently at different registries, this is a good place to provide them with the information to find your registry. In some cases, you might be able to link directly to your registry at the store's website.

Your guests can R.S.V.P. to your website. In some situations, you may also want to post the names of guests who have already confirmed their attendance, as this will allow others to make plans for traveling or spending time together.
