“Classic” is a qualifier that is much over-used. It fits here, though. After several decades in print, this is still the definitive study of the Convention of 1787 that produced the United States Constitution. Even with renewed interest in the Convention sparked by the Constitution’s bicentennial in 1987, a spate of newer books failed to eclipse this one.
